Artist Statement
A combination of vintage magazine covers, acrylic paint and painted wood on canvas. The work is mounted behind conservation glass within a dark brown, wooden frame.
Using segments of Homemaker magazine covers from the 1950s, this geometric patterned piece combines these with painted sections of canvas and wooden strips. The colour palette is drawn from the pastel colours featured in the printed material. Inspired by British post-war architecture, the pattern resembles an apartment block with windows displaying people engaging in household tasks or other domestic features.
This work is directly influenced by mid-century modernism and evokes a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era.
Listed size includes the frame.
