Artist statement
A collection of vintage comic panels arranged on canvas with painted wooden strips. The work is mounted behind conservation glass within a dark brown, wooden frame.
Using two identical and original copies of an Italian Disney comic from 1973, these panels have been cut from pages and laid out to form a vibrant, geometric pattern. The intended story arc has been scrambled in the arrangement allowing a new, absurd narrative to form. The artwork mainly features depictions of Donald Duck who is known in Italy as Paperino.
The use of vintage comics as a source material evokes a sense of nostalgia.
Listed size includes the frame.
