Artist Statement
A collection of original, vintage postage stamps arranged on canvas with a painted wooden circle. The work is mounted behind conservation glass within a dark brown, wooden frame.
Utilizing a combination of whole small stamps and segments cut from larger stamps, they have been laid out in a geometric pattern forming the shape of a globe. With their own individual histories, the stamps date from various years throughout the twentieth century and have been grouped together in various shades of blue.
Evoking a sense of nostalgia, this work references a bygone era when mail was the primary form of correspondence.
