About the art
Artist statement
The artwork, titled after Jean-Luc Godard's film 'A bout de souffle,' reflects themes of alienation and existentialism explored in the film. Created during the COVID-19 pandemic's first lockdown in 2020. While feeling trapped and suffocated in my small flat, I turned to art as an outlet to cope with loneliness and emptiness. Taking inspiration from Barnet Newman, Jackson Pollock, and Mark Rothko; Breathless represents my attempt to find meaning and beauty in the chaotic and hostile world of the lockdown.
This piece was exhibited at RHB Foundation's 2023 charity group exhibition in Bangsar, Malaysia.
