Artist Statement

Part of the study '99 Transitions in 33 Days'

To stay sane during the COVID-19 lockdown, and inspired by the changing light during the sunset, I created 99 Transitions in 33 days, using Photoshop.

This is a Fine Art Print with Transition numbers 97, 98 and 99 out of 99 transitions.

The colour palettes are inspired by the Paris Metro and the U-Bahn of München and Berlin.

Artist Profile

Born: 1972

Hometown: Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany

Based in: Milan, Italy

My name is Andreas Lodewijk Schmidt but everybody calls me André.

I was born in 1972 in Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany, to Dutch parents, so I’m Dutch.

I spent my childhood in Germany, Suriname and the Netherlands, where I biked to and from my high school every day for 14 km each way until I graduated in 1990.

After working half a decade in development aid as a tropical hydrologist in Kenya, India and Zimbabwe, a decade in the corporate worlds of eBay and Google, followed by a decade as Founder & CEO of my technology company, I decided that the next decade, and more, is going to be about creativity and art. I love to create and put this as the front and centre of what I do.

I am an Agricultural Engineer (‘Landbouwkundig Ingenieur’ ) from Wageningen University and earned my MBA degree from New York University.

So far I lived in 10 countries and 5 continents and now call Milan home, where I live together with my two kids.

With respect to art, I’m 100% autodidact and love to learn by doing, driven by my curiosity. My objective is to create works of art you never get tired of looking at.
