I loved the stormy sky and the light on the wet sand at Hope Cove, South Devon. Reduction linocut
Based in: London
I work from my garden studio in north west London. I am drawn to the beauty of the rolling countryside, the narrow hedgrow lanes, and the coastal paths in Devon, where I spend much of my time. I love that sense of mystery about where things may lead and where they may have originated. I like to accentuate the patterns that I find in the natural world that often go unnoticed or are soon forgotten. I make sketches and take photos along the way and work on these when I return to my studio.
The reduction linocut method suits my slightly graphic approach to the image, where I can accentuate the patterns and shapes from my sketches into a print. I enjoy working out the cutting process of the lino for the many layers of colours that will be applied to the plate at each stage.
I trained at Harrow School of Art and worked as a graphic designer for some years before becoming a full time printmaker. I exhibit regularly and have work in private collections in this country and abroad, and permanently on display at Greenwich Printmakers Gallery, Tidal Gallery, Wychwood Gallery, Bell Fine Art and New Ashgate Gallery. I have exhibited at Bankside RE open, Society of Woman Artists at the Mall Galleries, Affordable Art Fair Battersea and Hampstead, as well as being prizewinner in the ‘Inspired by’ competition at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
