Artist Statement
Work from the solo show "Lux, an atmospheric abstraction", Galerie Lacroix, Paris.
This exhibition is an allusion to the journey of light through the universe, to the origin of life, referring to the creation of matter. Deschamps builds here her very own cosmogony.
The frames of the paintings are exclusively round or squares. The round tondos are the Mothers and the squares are the Spotlights. The oil paint coats the supports as slicks.
In the Spotlight series the squared frames depict the disc as a subject. The various degrees of remoteness and the various surrounding colour slicks describe the journey of light through the universe.
