Sitompul started to paint since he was kid. He went to Indonesia Institute of Art in Yogyakarta after he joined any other social major in other university. Sitompul joins a painter community in Yogyakarta named Sanggar Dewata Indonesia. Through his artworks, AT Sitompul is trying to spacify his fantasy. Honesty is the main idea in doing his artworks; Sitompul tries to visualize the things that he saw, felt, and heard and also moment that he has gone through. Sitompul was graduated from Institute of Art Yogyakarta. He has ever joined many exhibitions in Indonesia and also overseas. He also ever got some awards such as beig a finalist of UOB Painting of the Year in Jakarta.
