Artist Statement

Bartos Saro is a reflective mapper with a sharp sense of texture, perspective and focus. His "Mirages" do not refer only to the transferred meaning of the word. Of the many materials he uses, sand is his favorite. So, however, a reference not only to the false hopes, appearances of something, delusions and illusions but also to the phenomenon of so often observed in the desert, the morgan fata, the image created under the influence of the refraction of light.

"Mirages" by Bartos Saro are images of the imaginary linear world. Reality is enclosed in layers of colors and convexities, expressive structures and bursting, "imaginary" distances. The picture covers the gesture of overlapping granularity. The textures contrast with fragments of shiny, metallic shimmering surfaces created by other painting media.

Artist Profile

Hometown: Budapest

Based in: Bristol

Bartos Saro’s life is very structured, organized but not in a confining way. So are his paintings. Sculptor and art historian by profession, Bartos Saro studied in his native Hungary and Great Britain. He started in modern design, made it to the level of partner in a furniture showroom company where he could put to work his methodically working but open mind. The level of corporational restraint and pressure was not appealing in the long run. Fascination with structures and materials in design took finally over and passion led him to the painting of matter. Bartos used to keep a studio in London, but finally moved to a more quiet place near Bristol where he can tend to his small japanese maple trees. He believes, he matured there.
