Artist Statement

Inspired in the movement of a metropolis, Walking Blind symbolizes an abstract image of its inhabitants´ trajectory. A dynamic repetition, each day the same roads, an apparently directionless influx that coincides, that creates intersections and bifurcations. Brenda Franco imitates, by spreading ink with its unpredictable course, a flow on continuous movement.

Walking Blind would seem like a spontaneous creation in which there is an absence of control, just as pedestrians try to find their way around the masses and melt themselves in an unstable direction. However, in each work of art one can perceive a desire to direct the movement, like in all great cities, there also is equilibrium within chaos, a deep order.

Making use of traditional materials, Brenda Franco finds inspiration in the patterns created by the natural flow of people, in order to present this apparently blind movement of the footprints left behind, such an agile distribution of India ink on delicate rice paper which provokes a desire to circulate and discover the journeys ahead.
