In 2017, we traveled to Naoshima, Japan, one of 3000 small islands in the Seto Inland Sea. Getting there is an experience in itself. From Kyoto, one travels by Shinkansen (bullet train), regional and local trains, and a ferry. Naoshima is home to numerous contemporary museums and art installations. The Chichu Museum is home to several large murals from Claude Monet’s Water Lilies series. The museum’s adjacent gardens have over 200 species of flowers and trees found in the gardens of Claude Monet. Our appreciation of Monet’s work is deepened through the physical experience of the garden.
