Celebration, 2022 by Capucine Safir
From the series We'll be free before it blossoms
Ink on paper (Acid-free 300 gsm)
Image size: 22 in. H x 29 in. W
This series started during the Miami lockdown in response to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.
The round, soft and repetitive shapes provide a hypnotic optical effect. The forms are continuously connected, as a symbol of the period lived during this confinement. The days go by and look the same: same decor, same routine, very few variations, you might as well make something beautiful out of it. “We’ll be free before it blossoms” is also research, on balance which is present in all of Safir’s work. The series in pencil ink or acrylic paint is available on paper, canvas, or various objects (sneakers, skateboards, boxing gloves, etc.).
Born in Paris, Capucine Safir now lives in Miami. After working for several years in the movie industry, she decided to change careers and earn a degree in interior design in Australia where she lived for 3 years. Back in Paris, she works for her own firm. In addition, she discovered the art of direct carving in stone in a studio in the 17th district. This form of art is immediately natural. It is after her second expatriation, in Miami, in 2013, that she becomes a professional artist by extending her practice to other materials and techniques. Capucine integrates a local gallery in the first year. Since then, her sculptures have been part of numerous private collections and are regularly exhibited in contemporary art galleries and fairs throughout the United States.
