Artist Statement
"Helldunkel" means "brightdark". It is part of a loosely connected series in which I explore how darker and lighter shapes react to each other. The drawing process starts with simple geometrical forms or lines. But due to contrast between the pencil's different degrees of hardness and overlapping of forms an order arises, new forms occur on the paper and in the viewer's mind.
