About the art
Artist statement
The varying shades of blue and pattern were made by cutting up and reassembling hand-printed botanical cyanotype prints from plants in my own garden. The same exact fern was printed repeatedly in different hues of the same blue by varying the seconds of exposure to light.
The paper is sealed with a very thin coat of rubbed-on cold wax medium, not a thick layer of hot melted encaustic wax. This matte barely perceptible layer protects the paper against dirt, dust and moisture, but does not have the noticeable thick, shiny, glassy look of an encaustic finish. It is not applied melted.
The 1.5-inch deep sides of the wood panel are painted white, making it ready to go on the wall without framing. There is a hanging wire on the back of both.
This one of two square panels of the exact same size in a similar pattern which could be hung as a vertical diptych one above the other on a narrow wall or side by side.
Sold separately.
