Artist Statement
Quiet Reflection, part of a large body of work completed over two years. The work addresses the effect climate change in particular global warming is having on the natural world. Specifically Alaska a place I visited in 2019. The colour palette selected, is a felt response which is integral to the work. I found myself in a troubling landscape in front of monumental glaciers melting at a quickening pace, experiencing temperatures higher than before in the month of May. A place that is constantly shifting. In my works I make reference to transition and the consequences of perpetual flux, which had a profound impact on me.
Exhibited at Satellites, Berwick Street, London UK, a group show curated by Rise Art, 2021

Clare is an artist living and working in Bristol, UK, with painting and drawing at the heart of her practice. Clare studied at Bath Spa University in 2014-15 graduating with an MA Fine Art Degree and University the West of England 2011-14 graduating with a First class BA honours degree in Drawing & Applied Art. Central to her practice is the use of pure colour which she makes from pigment and a binder, cold pressed linseed oil. Clare makes work deeply connected to a sense of place in response to particular landscape features that have had a profound effect on her, mostly in tidal and coastal areas. Her work has always been about place, specific visited places, Alaska in 2019 and the North Cornish Coast UK and are so particularly understood by drawing directly.
