Artist Statement
I am exploring human mark-making and erasure as both generative and disruptive processes. Working in acrylic on yupo paper, I create a number of gestural additive marks and immediately disrupt those marks using fabricated tools to subtract and delete, leaving pattern in the material absence, to yield a depth of field and illusionary spatiality within the super flat plastic substrate. These synthetic and formally abstract spaces allude to systems, infrastructure, topography, psycho-geography, pattern and disruption, and demonstrate a shared agency between human action, tools and materiality.
