Artist Statement
In Athens the heritage of the classical era is still evident in the city, represented by ancient monuments and works of art. The other part of the center was built mainly during the 60s and 70s, responding to a huge post-war internal migration wave, without any masterplan, as the product of an urbanism practiced through small scale building activity of its residents. This work belongs to my " City Explosion" aerial series.

Costas Spathis is a Greek architect and photographer. Since childhood, Costas has pursued his passion for aesthetics and architecture. Studying in architecture he took his adoration for the arts and turned it into a career. He worked in the industry for years, developing his form and style. Inspired by minimalism and mathematics, he took root in geometrical concepts for his work. Cultivating shapes from simple equations and formulas, his projects would emulate the natural symmetry.
Costas started working with drones since they first appeared. Today he specializes in aerial photography and his work is tangible proof of how technology increasingly influences contemporary art. Usually his photography resembles contemporary art, patterns, a shadow game, parametric views of a city, minimalism and various concepts of architecture.
