A 30-minute long-exposure brings an otherwise dark scene to life under the light of the intense red of the train signal, and the cool glow of the blue night sky. The stars streak across the sky and cross over the power lines lit from the working machinery at the 24-hour mine behind the camera.

Shot on Fuji 400H 35mm film. The image has been professionally scanned from the original 35mm negative, and printed using archival pigment ink on resin-coated Kodak lustre photographic paper. The black border indicates a full-frame uncropped image.
The traditional photographic paper size I rely on is not indicative of the size of the actual image on the print, as there needs to be white space to allow for framing as well as the edition number & signature.
The print will ship unframed; the 3rd image is an illustrative example.

I am passionate about film photography, and using it to capture beautiful and harsh landscapes; often
within the same frame. I find the Australian landscape completely fascinating and alluring; it has such
dramatic contrast to where I’m from, and is seemingly never-ending in its variation and size.
I have lived in Sydney since 2008 after moving from New Zealand, but I have travelled extensively
around New South Wales and Victoria to gather my images, and increasingly further interstate.
I strive to create simple and uncluttered images which have an inherent beauty with their composition,
dream-like quality, and minimal colour or grey palette. My wish is that they are pleasant and restful to
look at, and can be somewhere peaceful and quiet to dwell for a time.
With its naturalistic (and occasionally surprising) colour palette, and beautiful organic texture, film is a
wonderful medium for creating images that appear slightly other-worldly and mystical.
I want to take the viewer to places they would not normally think of or have the opportunity to go to.
This is the reason I love to travel in the way I do; most of my favourite images are from places on
roads not necessarily leading toward anywhere important.
For me the most pleasing subjects and situations aren’t always famous geographic features or
national parks, but everyday back-country roads & villages, and dusty old routes leading away from
forgotten towns. No matter how far I travel, there is always another interesting shot somewhere just
a little further up the road...
All of my images are shot on 35mm and medium format (6x7) film. Many film stocks that I love are
no longer made, but I am very proud to continue to shoot film since buying my first camera in the
late ‘90s when I was in high school. I will keep buying and shooting film for as long as I can.
