About the art
Artist statement
The artwork holds special significance for Arzola, and he considers it among his favorite creations. It was a commission for the New York LGBT Center, and was part of a campaign launched in 2017 that featured the image in the New York subway and the annual Pride events. Arriving in New York was a milestone in Arzola’s career – he felt a sense of triumph as someone who grew up in a small town and reached the cultural epicenter. The image reflects the strong impression New York left on the artist, who discovered its beauty through the diverse and fascinating stories of its inhabitants.
