Artist Statement
Inspired by Um's trip to Yosemite National Park, the paintings draws inspiration of landscape compositions from traditional Chinese artist such as Shitao. It explores different techniques of strokes and colors that layer which compliment each other in harmony. The vertical strokes of indigo in the background that drapes the overall painting suggest a rainy dark night while the figures gives hints of light and motion.
