Artist Statement

IconCaretDown

From an older series in 2018, the influence of movies, comics, classic American cartoons, custom culture art and Japanese anime all filter into Decki’s works. Having researched and even
independently published his own comic series, Decki creates original characters such as Furryball - which are a reflection of his alter-ego. The character appears in all of his artworks - as in this image, with a highly textured surface and nondescript expression, whose intentions can only be determined through actions or gestures. This painting brings to mind other associations such as Robin Hood, grand sporting events, carnivals, Chinese porcelain and even the music of Daft Punk - leaving a fertile arena for viewers’ minds to wander and explore.
