Artist Statement

At 41, the artist started to be involved in the practice of skating in a skatepark. This practice of extreme sport is for her synonymous with the acquisition of power in the whole of her life. Thanks to her, she positions herself in society as an actor in her life as a woman and her free will. She faces a lot of criticism about the risks involved with this sport, her age or simply her positioning in public spaces generally reserved for men. The practice of "dropping" (a drop-in is the act of going from a flat platform to a steep transition, starting at the top edge of a bowl or ramp by positioning a skate on the coping.) takes an important place in his artistic quest. Going in search of new skateparks, dropping everywhere, higher and higher, spaces with curves and slopes whose designs are always changing and require courage and determination represents for her a commitment close to performance.

The multiplicity of architectural forms in height, curves and slopes that she discovered in these places of urban and transgressive culture fascinates her. These lines in the half-pipes, bowls and pools they visit around the world are the source of her series of ink drawings which require calm, patience and precision in their realization.

Artist Profile

Born: 1980

Hometown: Paris

Based in: Montréal

Delphine Huguet is a Franco-Canadian visual artist born in 1980 in France. She is graduate from the National School of Arts of Paris-Cergy and the Higher School of Arts and Design of Reims. She works and lives between Montreal in Canada and Paris in France.
From 2007, Delphine Huguet became interested in the world of the table, ingredients as sensory materials, and tasting rituals. She diverts the codes associated with these elements to create performances, edible trompe-l'oeil or objects. Her work is rooted in traditional know-how that she crosses with new technologies or contemporary societal rituals. Thus she creates devices and edible objects imbued with poetry that disturb the norms linked to this universe.
In 2017, she became aware of the bond she seeks to develop with the public through her edible creations: the culinary ritual as an excuse to get in touch with others. This awareness led her to develop an intimate research on her relationship to the world as a woman through new materials. Always imbued with the world of cooking, this research uses ingredients, first as ink in drawings then in textile sculptures as natural dye or padding. Through these poor mediums of contemporary art, she poses a political gesture as a woman and as an artist.
In 2022, she is developing multidisciplinary projects in sculpture and visual arts that question her life as a woman. Grouped under the name "The mythologies journal ", it uses traditional know-how and new technologies, around a new reading of the body, of feminine desire, of societal rituals linked to interpersonal relationships. As a feminine and feminist artistic quest, this project will give rise to various exhibitions and the creation of an artist's book.
Internationally recognized for her practice, she has collaborated with prestigious museums such as the Fondation Louis Vuitton in Paris, Center George Pompidou in Paris, Le Grand Palais, Jerusalem Design week, the Museo di arte moderna e contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto in Italy or the McCord Museum and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts.
