Artist Statement
Throughout Clément DENIS’s work there is an oscillation between two- dimensional surface and three-dimensional corporeality. Images are embraced in the round as visceral and bodily, the superimpositions are legion, and the faces merge with each other. But mostly it is the huge scene reminiscent inevitably of Matisse’s ‘The Dance’ vis-a-vis Picasso’s ‘Les Demoiselles d'Avignon’ - that captures and disturbes the viewer.

Artist Profile
Born: 1991
Hometown: Saumur
Based in: Vétheuil
At the age of 30, the French painter from Loire Valley (Saumur) is the first artist to take up residence in Claude Monet's house in Vétheuil, behind the Impressionist maestro. Clément DENIS lives and works in Vétheuil, a small village laying on the banks of the Seine. He graduated from the Fine arts School of Paris (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts) in 2018, received the Bv Collectors award in 2019, and has seen how work being collected since 2013.
Clément DENIS is an important figure of the current French artistic scene and draws from ancient myths to better approach the present. Skilfully playing with his medium’s constraints, he is lithe, almost balletic in his movements. He appears as well balanced, both physically and mentally, as a boat, curious about the world, tolerant of other people’s foibles...
One gets a sense of the beauty and savagery of the world simultaneously, something that seldom happens in real life.
All the paintings have a narrative with an emotional texture that can send you right off your chump with intrigue.
Along a special feature with Gallery HZ from Hong Kong, Clément DENIS work is exhibited at LMS Gallery from Brussels and Gallery Perpitch & Bringand to Paris.
