THE WAVE | HOKUSAI | 2021
This is arguably the most recognizable example of traditional Japanese art in the western world. It is certainly Hokusai's most famous work.
We are awed by the power and fury of the ocean's leap into the sky. We are doused by the splash of its mighty crest as it sprays out droplets.
Andreas Ramos wrote:
The waves form a frame through which we see the mountain. The inevitable breaking that we await creates tension in the picture. A small wave forming a miniature Fuji is reflected by the distant mountain, itself shrunk in perspective. Strangely, despite a storm, the sun shines high.
Rejoice in the wonder of unbridled Nature, your mind swept clean as you ride The Wave.
