Artist Statement
This piece is one of a series of works making use of Julia sets, a type of fractal. It's not obvious to the naked eye, but each of the "galaxies" in the image is its own fractal, broken up into points and twisted into a unique shape. To me, this image is strongly reminiscent of a deep-sky photograph - where every point of light is actually a galaxy containing billions of suns. Others, however, see this image as bacteria under the microscope. Whichever one you see, it's interesting that they're both remote in scale, just in different directions!
