Artist Statement
In the work, the red-colored background indicates that there is some kind of fight out there. Although the long nose character sitting in the front is not involved in the event, he still gets hurt with a broken nose, looking pitiful and upset. The work would like to deliver the message that when we live or play in the city, we may encounter interesting things. And sometimes there may also be weird and dangerous things that we could never imagined come to our lives that we could not avoid. We need to accept all these.

Artist Profile
Hometown: Tokyo
Based in: Tokyo
Diego is known as one of best graffiti artists in Tokyo (but in different name secretly). Being active in the street for more than 10 years, Diego is also well known in the international underground graffiti circle. Diego always captures the trivial things in our city: plastic bottles, stray rats, drunk man lying in street, or even shaking buildings. While these things are unwanted by the mainstream society, Diego celebrates them with his art. He rearranges these visual elements in ‘manga-abstract’ style, a modern graffiti style that combines abstract painting with distorted cartoon characters. By the graffiti paints and ironic collages, Diego once again introduces a strange yet familiar cityscape to the viewers.
In recent years, Diego’s art walks into gallery from the street. In 2018, Takashi Murakami organized a solo exhibition for him at Hidarizingaro. His graffiti works were even engaged in Art Basel HK 2018, Frieze NY 2018, and Kumamoto Art Museum.
