Artist Statement
Alla prima contemporary watercolor on 100% cotton paper. This serie was created during the Author's trip to the Greek Islands. The paintings were made from nature and sometimes during transit between islands. As the eminent painters of the past, Aseeva considers this kind of work crucially important for the painter. To see and to paint, discovering the world around through the color, conserving the state of this very moment, producing a perfect imprint of "here and now". Small format artworks made from nature gained its importance in the beginning of the 19th century as the impressionists started exhibiting them and this format had a great success. Degas and Monet, Sorolla, Zorn and Sargent included small size studies and watercolors in their personal expositions. So Sargent, for example, sold his watercolors made "for himself" to the important museums of the USA, not only private collections. Since that, these intimate, made "not for sale" works are considered the essence of the talent and ability of the painter and are requested by the collectors all over the world.
