Artist Statement

This artwork is part of a series of drawings entitled "Supernatural women" combining woman body and natural elements in a poetic way.
The aquatic element has always fascinated me and I represent it as a recurrent theme. Here, water symbolizes both an inner richness and emotions that overwhelm us.
This drawing can evoke classical representations of the female figure in art history. It echoes a painting with the same title, "La Source" by Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres, painted in 1856, which I discovered recently at the Orsay Museum, by chance, long after having made this drawing.
My approach, however, is totally different from a classical master of painting.
Refusing any idealization of flesh and of painting itself, my source is subjective, graphic, contemporary.
