Artist Statement

This picture is part or the Mindscapes project (ongoing since 2020). Each picture is unique in its contents and narrative, all of them are oil paintings on primed rice paper. This picture is special for me because it was among the first ones where i used white paint to create non-transparent layers of colour. Also Matryoshka's body was first painted in more solid layer, but was lately thinned using strong solvent. Theme of telling|retelling, mention and erasure is center of the Mindscapes project and this painting underlines that.
Please, kindly be aware that the painting is an object and it consists of
1. Image itself painted on primed part of the sheet , sheet size is 46*69 cm, image is approximately 43*65 cm
2. The margins (unprimed rice paper around the image) might be are untidy and/or sometimes dirty BY DESIGH. They are supposed to be like this!
Sheet (46*69 cm) = painted image (appx. 43*65 cm) + margins (vertical margins appx. 1-1.5 cm each, horizontal margins are appx. 1.5-2 cm each)

Artist Profile

Hometown: Moscow (Troitsk)

Based in: Moscow

Artist, based in Moscow, graduated from the BHSAD 2 year Illustration course in
2020.
Nowness is filled with signal and noise, all perceived from multiple screens. Human
mind navigates through excess and lack of information created by machine
algorithms and human bias, negotiates fact and fake, sails through clashing tides of
memory, fact, interpretation and opinion. In her work Ekaterina tries to reflect upon
the fundamental incoherence of reality. Her preferred medium is oil painting, which
itself implies an introspective, almost escapist artist practice that is in conflict with
any outward research. She explores the inevitable conflict between slow production
of a painting and fleeting emotion, thought or image it is supposed to apprehend.
