Artist Statement
The title of the painting marks it as the first work the artist composed without the intention of editing it digitally. A knife and spatula, rather than brushes, were used to achieve scrapes and rough applications of paint. Chao experimented with a palette of neon acrylics and neutral oils, seeking a balance of vibrancy and solemnity to reflect the duality of spirit and flesh.
