Artist Statement
Most of our body consists of water. The water here is used as a metaphor to symbolize human emotion. The characteristic of water is to follow through the available space. Water can be in the form of ice when it gets cold, it can be an invisible steam, dew, rain, river, sea, pond and can take many other forms. The frozen and hard feelings cannot help emotional turbulence but slowly they will melt and become one with the ocean. We have no other choice but to join the natural cycle and become water (feeling) in another shape.

Artist Profile
Born: 1996
Hometown: Surabaya
Based in: Yogyakarta
Born in Surabaya in 1996, Elisa Faustina now lives in Yogyakarta and is finishing her Fine Art studies at the Indonesia Art Institute, Yogyakarta. Since her childhood, Elisa had been doodling. She started painting on canvas only during senior high school.
For Elisa, it is important that feelings such as sadness, despair, anger, disenchantment, despondency, shame, embarashment, peace, and emptyness should touch her heart.
Elisa’s artworks are a deduction of her collective experience, whether they are daily basic experiences or memorable ones. For Elisa, experiences that bear emotions helps us to grow sensitivity and humanity. These can then be translated into an abstract expression.
For Elisa, Abstract is the essence of colors and emotions. Abstract gives the perception of space that can not be translated by figure painting. The pigments sprinkled with organic shapes bring unlimited freedom of thought.
