Artist Statement
It towers above. 9, 10, 24 stories up. It is not land that touches the sky; it is concrete that cuts the horizon. It is lives stacked, one on top of the other, row after row after row. And all I see are black boxes. Black on white on black.

Motivated by a curiosity for mortality and the abstract nature of thought, Ernest Wu uses photography and moving image to explore the ways in which we perceive mind-space and our physical environments.
Ernest Wu (b.1991) studied film at Ngee Ann Polytechnic from 2008 to 2011 and graduated in 2018 from Nanyang Technological University, School of Art, Design and Media with a BFA(hons) in Photography and Digital Imaging. He has exhibited at Auckland Photo Festival, a group exhibition at The Private Museum and in 2017 he was a part of Singapore International Photography Festival’s “NOMAD’ residency program in China culminating in an exhibition at the 7th Dali International Photography Exhibition. Ernest exhibited 'Void Decks' at Shophouse 5 under 'Untapped Discovery', organised by the Visual Arts Development Association Singapore. For his work, Ernest was recently awarded the Kwek Leng Joo prize of Excellence in Photography.
