Artist Statement
de/construction_223 is an acrylics, ink and paint markers painting on canvas board. It continues my series of abstract paintings inspired by architectural constructions. It takes architecture apart - deconstructing the structure - in its various elements. Contrasting an organic background, somewhat reminiscent of clouds or blank concrete, with geometric shapes, a tension is created. Still, the different elements are carefully composed to create a harmoneous overall image, in part also balanced by the strong box shape in the centre that works as a foundation for the image. Overall, the painting combines contemporary painting styles with graphical design elements to convey the different aspects of architecture in its natural environment: a technical element in organic space.
