About the art
Artist statement
Tenryuji mixes Scandinavian and Japanese influences, showing a composition contrasting fluid shapes with strong linework. The fluid shapes are reminiscent of the work of Hans Arp, yet also of the fluidity of Japanese gardens when viewed from above. Tenryuji, a temple close to Kyoto, is famous for his garden. Similarly, this painting contrasts fluid shapes in the background with strong line work on the foreground, creating depth and tension, yet also balance.
