The raised gold dots sprinkled in a close grid across the surface of the canvases on display here in Life Between the Dots are a unifying symbol, that have increasingly become a signature for Fauzin over the course of his career. In fact, these spheres quietly link to the concepts of spirituality and religion that he often employs, reiterating his position as an artist who weaves personal narratives into a highly contemporary practice. The circular dots represent life itself. Applied continuously throughout the paintings, as is seen in Into the Deepest Light, they allude to infinity and the idea of One Absolute Power. Into the Deepest Light features’ large swirls across the surface of the canvas, hinting at the circle of life. Fauzin approaches this concept on a markedly philosophical level - seeing life appearing as a light out of darkness, which will eventually be extinguished. However, given his personal deeply spiritual beliefs, he has faith in the afterlife, which is expressed here as the re-appearance of life for a soul. Intermingling black with brighter slices of gold in the background of Into the Deepest Light visually represents this perception of duality, as they fade and appear throughout the works.

Fauzin Mustafa is an eminent Malaysian contemporary artist that celebrates nature's sovereignty and tropical colours through metaphoric, symbolic and dominant leaf iconography.
Renowned for his mixed media practice since the 1990s, Fauzin combines thoughtful concepts with the formalistic aspects of fine art through recognisable Malay iconography, thereby enabling his audience an easy yet interesting visual experience. Influenced by his environment, his artworks are often representational of the landscapes and cultures that are truly Malaysian.
His innovative play with batik and Malay iconography as well as proverbs provides a viable shift of the modernist to contemporary art whilst showcasing the best of the lesser-known Malaysian culture to the world.
A Fine Art graduate, Fauzin holds several notable awards such as the Young Contemporaries competition, Salon Malaysia, ASEAN Youth Painting and Philip Morris Asian Art Awards. His artworks are collected by private and public collectors locally and internationally.
