Artist Statement

Otherworldly is a 24x48x1.5 inches purple and gold oil on canvas painting of a group of deer at dawn painted in a semi-abstract, messy art-nouveau style. In a typical deer manner, some of them watch the viewer ready to flee if you move. Their colours are deep purple and magenta with only a slight hint of their white markings. Behind them there is a horizontal line of sun beginning to rise casting the deer mostly in silhouette with sparkles of gold and white light outlining them. There is also a hint of violet casting an oddness to the whole thing (I like oddness). The mood I was going for in this painting was that moment at dawn when the magic of a new day is starting. Despite herds of deer being easy to spot nowadays, in my part of East Sussex, they are no less ethereal and magical for it – especially at dawn. Painted on deep edge canvas (purple edges) and ready to hang. Comes with certificate of authenticity.
