Artist Statement
Giorgiana’s artwork was initiated during the Covid-19 lockdown period that started in March 2020.
The motivation for this project was fuelled by her passion for abstract art as well as her desire to use this visual medium to communicate emotional meaning to viewers. The art has hidden messages only revealed with the camera flash of a cellphone for viewers to decipher. This evokes “QR-iousity” and experiences for diverse spiritual emotions among viewers.
She was forced to navigate and gain knowledge to create something with intrigue, fun, yet personal in a world where physical touch and closeness had become a restriction With the deterioration in mental health to a society at present, she has shared insights in her art pieces that encapsulates the capability to transform, health and strengthen the world around us.
Through experiences and dark periods in her own life, she became more aware of problems associated with this disease and through this perception she was able to create something she could relate to, to enhance personal well-being. These hidden message in her artwork were highly instrumental in guiding her through her own healing process.
Her QR series represents the darkness that infiltrated our world during this pandemic and assumed control of our psychological state of mind. Light emitted by a mobile phone flash reveals the hidden messages of optimistic affirmations that epitomised the true meaning of her art. The relevance of colour on the individual pieces is significant and a direct reflection of the affirmation represented on that piece.
May her QR-URIOUS project and its imagery allow viewers a personal interpretation of their own state of emotions
