This is a history of the mattress and the pond during various year of visiting Salinas de Pullally ponds.
A friend had invited us to his house in a private estate called Salinas de Pullally close to the sea. While scouting places where I could take photographs near a cove, I found these ponds. They were formed within the rocks near the seashore line.
From the hill I could see strange colors floating on the ponds. Getting closer discovered that apparently someone had thrown a mattress to the sea. Guess that during a storm, the mattress was destroyed against the seashore.
The rocks pulled all fibers out from the upper cover.
The water movement had violently laid them giving a calm surprising scene.
Images captured in many rolls of film and would return a few times during a 7-year span.
Wanted to register the pollution decay of the fibers.
From the series of reflections on water, this one belongs to the images I made at Salinas de Pullally seven years later. The ponds kept the fibers of a mattress for many years. In this case the fibers had disappeared, and you could only find algae.
I continued visiting to capture and write the tale of The mattress and the pond.

Hometown: La Paz
Based in: Calera de Tango
Photographer dedicated to portraying Water.
It was late 1955 when my eyes peeped at the city of La Paz near the high Andes. Since then, they have learned by capturing sparkles of light.
The influence of Ansel Adams and Vincent Van Gogh work has forged my technique to pursue the chase of Water and capture its beauty, while visiting more than 40 countries. Living in 10 of them and settled at the small town of Calera de Tango in Chile.
My work is done using film in a medium format, as well as digital cameras. Capturing the beauty of water in all its forms; denouncing many times the little interest that our civilized world invests in its conservation and preservation. Printing mainly on large size fine art photographic paper, for Color as well as Black & White; lately using ink based printing and fine art digital paper.
Water, an important resource, source of life, and protagonist of my exhibitions around the world, that converge between the look of the paused movement, preserving it for future generations, as is the case of certain images that I took at a glacier that has disappeared during the last 20 years.
Started oil painting and playing in darkroom at the age of 10, later taking pictures of what my eyes noticed. Took as much photography courses as I could, forging my technique and creating the water portfolio. Still continue learning and using new digital tools.
