It was a Saturday, I was flying to Barcelona, and from the altitude I could only see clouds, and the weather report said: Rain…
Was going to meet a photographer friend Felipe, who I had not seen for many years since he left Bolivia. He was the person that convinced me to enter the medium format cameras. I had called him a couple of days earlier to organize a trip where I could take photographs of Water.
Although I was discouraged by the bad weather, I prepared myself to visit new places. Always rain brings interesting outcomes, during and afterwards.
We took a rented car towards the north of Barcelona. We stopped at a small town Cardedeu, so looked for a place to lodge and have dinner. It was still raining and difficult to find both places. However it was very difficult to find a place to satisfy, at the same time: vegetarian and carnivores like me.
Sunday came along; the clouds had made us the honor to disappear, so we had good sun light. We rushed up the mountain to the Montseny park and by 8AM we started taking photographs. Half an hour later most of the hikers that climbed the Montseny arrived. They watched with curiosity these two photographers with large cameras that were taking photographs of tree branches.

Hometown: La Paz
Based in: Calera de Tango
Photographer dedicated to portraying Water.
It was late 1955 when my eyes peeped at the city of La Paz near the high Andes. Since then, they have learned by capturing sparkles of light.
The influence of Ansel Adams and Vincent Van Gogh work has forged my technique to pursue the chase of Water and capture its beauty, while visiting more than 40 countries. Living in 10 of them and settled at the small town of Calera de Tango in Chile.
My work is done using film in a medium format, as well as digital cameras. Capturing the beauty of water in all its forms; denouncing many times the little interest that our civilized world invests in its conservation and preservation. Printing mainly on large size fine art photographic paper, for Color as well as Black & White; lately using ink based printing and fine art digital paper.
Water, an important resource, source of life, and protagonist of my exhibitions around the world, that converge between the look of the paused movement, preserving it for future generations, as is the case of certain images that I took at a glacier that has disappeared during the last 20 years.
Started oil painting and playing in darkroom at the age of 10, later taking pictures of what my eyes noticed. Took as much photography courses as I could, forging my technique and creating the water portfolio. Still continue learning and using new digital tools.
