Artist Statement

Guardian of Light radiates light, joy and inspiration. It's tall striking format feels like a window of a cathedral. The canvas is textured and the sides are left painting revealing the creative process.

“My aim is to capture beauty – not by painting a landscape as I know it with trees, mountains, clouds or sunsets... rather by painting the essence of nature using her elements of color, light, patterns, movement and space.” Since Thompson returned to Canada after studying art in Europe she has focused on developing two distinct styles of painting – monochrome and multicolor. Her monochromes are fields of color comprised of countless flecks, dots and lines that weave together a vibrating energy field. Her multicolor resemble natural phenomenon – a sunset, fire or light - where particles of matter rise, break apart and create a light-filled spectacle. Both styles aim to elicit feelings of inspiration, peacefulness and awe. Viewers of her work have commented, "I don't know what I'm looking at, but the painting makes me feel peaceful."
