Artist Statement

IconCaretDown

A Whisper of Warmth is a non-objective minimal painting celebrating simplicity, light and color - gold, white, brown and yellow. The image comprises countless delicate lines, dots, and flecks which create a tapestry of comforting warmth. Its unified field pulsates with a vibrating, yet calming energy. The painting elicits peacefulness and gives the busy, stressful mind a whisper of optimism. The surface shows delicate texture and the sides are painted a solid dark brown. The work is signed on the back.

Technique:
Heidi Thompson’s painting process begins with texturing a stretched cotton canvas with gesso and silica sand. The texture gives the painting a natural, almost sculptural tactility. Once the surface dries, she applies paint using a small fan brush and stick. For several hours, she taps the paint-loaded brush to build a field of thousands of flecks, dots and lines.
