Henk’s minimalistic work is the opposite of everything pretentious. With a background as design director and innovation manager in the automotive and toy industry, his work has over the years developed from hyper-realistic car illustrations to completely free and reductive paintings. However still creating a link to the industrial world, Henk’s art is a liberation from conventions and traditional points of views. With deep respect for the historical craft of painting, Henk believes in century old recipes and sophisticated techniques for preparing and priming his canvases to create works that are truly alive. Besides painting in oil and egg-tempera he also works with charcoal and uses screen printing techniques as well as readymades.
Henk has a degree in product and automotive design and worked 14 years as innovation manager and art curator for toy company Lego in Denmark, Munich and Berlin. Since 2014 Henk is an independent artist and design consultant in Munich, spending most of the time at his art studios on the Atlantic coast of southern France.
