Lives and Works: Bali
Also known as Lampung, Made Widyadiputra studied sculpture at the Indonesian Institute of Art in Yogyakarta (ISI).
Part of the new group of young Balinese artists, Lampung is a member of Sanggar Dewata Indonesia, following the footsteps of his well known contemporaries such as Nyoman Gunarsa, Made Wianta, Made Djirna and Nyoman Masriadi.
His works respond to the perpetually changing nature of today’s contemporary art, while also keeping his ties with his traditional Balinese roots. Often his works are an interpretation of Balinese traditions, or critical viewpoints of Indonesia’s socio-political issues.
Excelling in the field of sculpture, his works are known for their ability to embrace the space, deploying its environment as a part of the artwork itself. Lampung is also renowned for his use of a variety of materials.
His latest works sees himself moving away from the traditional three dimensional nature of sculptures, but rather an exploration of the three dimensional in the two dimensional in an attempt to blur the typical pigeonhole distinction of mediums.
