Artist Statement
This ducting was coming out of a Chinese restaurant and was in an alleyway that I used to get to a communal darkroom. I must have walked past it dozens of time before one day I looked up and saw haw provocative it was. It was very difficult to photograph because the alley was very narrow. I love the way this image prints because it is so grimy and dirty but so suggestive. The restaurant, alleyway and ducting were all demolished and built over many years ago along with the darkroom I used. This image was originally shot on film, the negative was scanned and is printed on Canson Baryta Photographique 310 gsm paper. Paper size 32.9cm x 48.3cm. Print is signed dated, numbered and titled on verso.
