A piece from Toksovo and Loo series.
Toksovo and Loo are two points on the map of Russia, separated by almost 2,300 km. One is a protected area in the foothills of the Caucasus, a picturesque region with waterfalls, azure lakes and resorts of the Black Sea coast. The second is a village near St. Petersburg, a modest neighbor of the cultural capital, not rich in either landscape or sights.
After spending the summer of 2020 in these two places; I made a series of charcoal drawings, the main object of which were trees. I chose places with minimal human presence and much vegetation, paying attention to the intricacy of shapes and details.
It is interesting how the vital energy of nature makes its way through any conditions, and how easy it is to find beauty in any place of the world.
