Artist Statement
Flower portraits are the studies of different emotions which overwhelm me.
Red color is associated with passion, confidence and strength. Violet shades symbolize dignity, and tranquility. Together they make a perfect match, balancing each other and letting the color tones interact with each other.
This painting follows “Passion in Her Eyes”, made in February 2022. Same color choice, but this time the painting comes out more detailed as if passion gives way to reason and thoughts take a new life becoming dreams, still secret though.
“Secret Dreams”, April 2022. Oil on stretched linen canvas. 100x80x3,8 cm.

Artist Profile
Born: 1986
Hometown: Moscow
Based in: Moscow
Inna Sumina is a Moscow-based self-taught emerging artist.
Painting has always been Inna’s passion: she attended arts school when she was young, and also studied at British Higher School of Art and Design, Moscow. She graduated from Teacher Training University where she studied linguistics.
When Inna was young she also played the violin. That’s why flowers are accompanied by music in her artworks very often.
Inna used to work as Key Account Manager in an international logistics/supply chain company for more than 10 years until in 2021 she devoted herself to painting thoroughly.
"My paintings reflect my inner world, I would call it a «garden». What is this garden like? It's a bit chaotic, somewhat bright, may be abstract or on the contrary pretty much ordered, or even dramatic.
Thanks to my paintings my inner garden becomes visible to others. In what way? I express myself in flower portraits. My flowers are realistic, abstract, expressive - they mirror «the garden of my soul». One can hardly choose a better medium than oil to convey the whole scale of feelings from confidence to despair. I prefer black (dark) background for paintings: it helps me to emphasise how fragile and vulnerable is the soul of a flower, reveal its fleeting beauty, which strives to be noticed during these odd times. Flower portraits are not just pretty images for me, they are my sentiments, what I am living for. My paintings are invariably emotional."
