Artist Statement

“Vibrant”, “full of energy”, “dreamy”, they look “so sweet”, “warm” or maybe “cool”. Words we describe colors with. While colors are alive and determine our lives through the moods they give us, they are merely different wavelengths of light; nothing more, nothing less. The longest wavelength that we can see, for example, is red. Red is powerful. Blood is red, but a rose is red too. It’s the romantic duality of life and death. In fengshui, this is the fire element that nourishes brown (the color of earth) and is created by green (the color of wood). A Fengshui Xiansheng, the master of your home’s arrangement, would carefully put each color in different places to make your life more balanced. Strong colors blended together become pastel-like, while mixing all the colors would produce white light – pure harmony. Harmony in our lives, if it ever existed, would be our perfect placement amongst the perfect arrangement of things that surround us – a Vasarely-esque illusion. Immersing in a world like that, on the other hand, would require us to reinvent ourselves. But what would we become? Square-shaped cells having a well-planned picnic on a sunny afternoon.
