For every one of those party people and paparazzi-harassed celebrities, there is another 10 people that stay hidden, unwilling to be noticed. China’s ayi – the gentle aunt that will cook, clean and even take care of your children – is one of these people that stay behind the camera and rather keep the country neat and organized. “Ayi Stardom” is homage to these hardworking ayis of China: once in her life, she’ll unknowingly step in front of the camera and blinding spotlights for all to appreciate her dedication. In a way, this is her 15 minutes of fame. But as soon as time runs out, she’ll return to the backstage and go on as in nothing had ever happened – true beauty of the modern wallflower.
