Each day I miss the soft touch of your skin and the curve of your smile. Things here aren’t exactly good, but my stomach is full, though my chest is heavy with the burdens that only a man-alone can feel. Paper is hard to come by nowadays. I’ve resorted to using sections cut from old pizza boxes to write these letters. HA!—It’s ironic, no? My shame showcased on greasy cardboard. Sorry about the interruption. It was the damned dogs again. Can never get any peace and quiet anymore. Sometimes I wonder if I should rejoin the settlement in Old Pudong, if it’s what you would’ve wanted. But I’m happier out here, away from them and with all of these wonderful clothes. I can be myself, the me I know you would want me to be. I can stand alone, a hero away from the herd. Maybe one day I can go back, drag them out of the cave and into this divine wasteland.
