My inspiration came from Diamonds Of The Night. Two young boys escaped from totalitarian rule and were hunted days and nights. One of the shots in which they escaped into the forest constitutes the main visual element. Simple thin lines depict the complicated jungle. I imagine the leading characters are replaced with two young girls who escaped from persecution. Shoes are the body cues. The painting title is adopted from Louise Bourgeois’s work in 1994 which has the same name.

Ma hold a MA degree in Feminist Theory and Practice at the Visual Art University of Leeds in UK and a BA in Fine Arts (Painting) from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology and The Art School, Hong Kong Art Centre.
Living on Lamma Island, she is much an introspective artist, but she recently left her self-focused works for an open dialogue with society and History. Her process looks like an alternative language: drawing lines on images - both stills taken from specific films and photographs found in history museums - enables her to reappropriate the subject and to write an alternative history of things. Erasing and drawing into existing photographs she also demonstrates the degree to which a decontextualised image loses all its informational content.
Ma had several recent solo show such as Numbers Standing Still at Exit Gallery Hong Kong (2012), Still-lifes and Waves, Artists in the Neighbourhood Scheme V, Hong Kong Film Archive and Commercial Press Book Shop, Hong Kong (2011) and Gazes at Gallery Exit (2011)… She also participated to many group shows internationally.
